Significance
This battle gave the allies a lot of headway against the Japanese. It was the first Japanese land delete which crippled the Japanese by taking a way a major military base, and impeded on their ability to attack other countries. This battle also marked the point were the allies switched from the defensive to the offensive, which let the Allies win the war. Lastly, it showed that the Japanese were incredibly resilient and would never surrender, which led many American leaders to support the use of a atomic bomb against the Japanese.
